Practical Tips to Strengthen Family Bonds

• Our job is not only to help protect, but also to help heal, our families
• Traumatized families have more to untangle than families not terrorized by trauma
• Trauma loses its power to ruin when faced with love and hope
• You are the one who can help your family heal, through your unconditional love
• You cannot meaningfully care for others unless you also take care of yourself
• Trauma can cause family dysfunction that can span generations
• We need to open channels of communication and build bridges of trust with our loved ones
• Our love supports the physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being of our children
• Build a support system, it takes a village to heal a child
• Trauma threatens our sense of safety and the ability to be in control of our circumstances
• Parents might not have the tools to help their children cope with trauma
• Children need attention and caring love 
• Don’t clip your children’s wings or limit their full potential
• Trauma shakes children’s foundation, and changes how they view themselves and the world
• If the world is not a safe place, make sure that your home is always a safe space
• Children need a daily dose of freedom and affection
• Children who lose their voice might express their basic needs through challenging behaviors
• Never hate your children or see them as enemies
• Children who don’t feel safe might act unsafely
• Your children’s needs are not only materialistic
• The most miserable parent is the one whose children feel safe when he/she is not around
• Making safety a priority means having zero tolerance for violence in all its forms
• Practice eye contact, smiling, greeting, safe touch, listening, talking, and spending time together
• Attachment and healing can happen, even if later in life, better late than never
• Expressing emotions is a sign of strength. Vulnerability is the ultimate act of courage
• Stigma and fear of “being a burden” leads people to suffer in silence
• What legacy do you like to leave for/in your children?
• As parents, we can make or break our children
• Our children take on what we are, so who we are matters
• Think the best of them and give your best to them
• In our relationship with our loved ones, connection not the perfection is the goal
• you are the most important person in your children’s life, let that sink in, then invest in that sacred bond
